Despite some angry neighbors, the construction of an apartment complex next to an Owasso elementary school has been given the green light.
The new complex will be near East 96th Street and North 129th East Avenue. Area residents are worried apartments will bring crime and unsafe conditions. They took their fight to the city council meeting Tuesday night. But in the end, city officials approved the plan, saying it fits into Owasso's future.
Resident Michael Schuffenhauer: "This felt like it was a little more of the good ole boy network in small town Oklahoma politics. And most of us thought it was a done deal and it was going to happen anyways. But we felt like at least we had to give it a shot."
Developers say the complex will be high-end apartment living, with an entrance away from the school.
Many residents are still unhappy. They say they'll remember this decision next election.
