(Mexico City-AP) -- The president of Mexico is now asking Governor Brad Henry to stop the execution of a Mexican national on Oklahoma's death row.

The letter from President Vicente Fox asks Henry for a 30-day stay of execution while Mexican government lawyers present arguments for clemency for Osbaldo Torres. Torres is due to be put to death next Tuesday for killing an Oklahoma City couple during a 1993 burglary.

The case drew international attention after the International Court of Justice ruled Torres' rights under the Vienna convention were violated.

The world court says Torres and 50 other Mexicans on U-S death rows were not told when they were charged that they could get help from their country's consulates.

The state Pardon and Parole Board is recommending Henry grant clemency to Torres. Henry has denied all three clemency recommendations he's received since taking office last year.
