Tulsa firefighters put out an electrical fire Thursday afternoon at Tulsa's Miss Jackson's in Utica Square.

News on 6 anchor Tami Marler says thanks to a fire safety plan, everyone was able to make it out of the store.

Witnesses at Miss Jackson’s Department Store reported hearing a loud pop and seeing smoke. Firefighters said an electrical transformer shorted out and sparked the fire between Miss Jackson’s and a neighboring store.

The entire building was evacuated, including women still wearing curlers. Miss Jackson’s employee Paula Butts: “You think it’s something minor, but in fact when the fire department is called out, you realize we all needed to be out of the building, and get our customers out as soon as possible.”

Thanks to the store's fire plan, everyone made it out of the building safely. The building wasn't damaged and the firefighters were able to allow shoppers back in after a few hours. Miss Jackson’s is one of Tulsa's premier shops offering the finest in clothes, accessories and gifts, and has become a legend in Tulsa history. No word yet on the extent of the damages.
