(Kansas City, Kansas-AP) -- No action will be taken today to close a Kansas City, Kansas, casino that's owned by an Oklahoma Indian tribe.
The National Indian Gaming Commission last Thursday determined the casino owned by the Wyandotte Tribe was operating illegally. The commission is giving the tribe one week to respond.
Some Kansas officials expected the casino to close today after a federal judge rejected a temporary restraining order to would allow it to remain open.
But Kansas City spokesman Don Denney says nothing will be done today and officials are waiting for state Attorney General Phill Kline to take formal action.
The gaming commission says the land doesn't qualify as a site for a casino because _ among other things _ the tribe resides in Oklahoma and has no strong historical connection to the site.
Calls to tribal officials today were not immediately returned.
