(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A state employee was arrested Wednesday morning when a handgun was found in his briefcase as he entered the state Capitol.
Jeff Davis of the Office of State Finance was arrested after security officers spotted the .380 semi-automatic when his briefcase went through an X-ray machine.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lieutenant Rusty Rhoades says Davis told officers he didn't know the gun was in the briefcase.
Rhoades says this is the first time a gun was seized from someone entering the building. He says Davis has a concealed weapons permit, but guns are prohibited from the state Capitol.
The Finance Office worked with the Department of Public Safety to set up the new security procedures that are now in place at the Capitol.
Finance director Scott Meachem says his office will investigate to determine if any disciplinary action is needed, but says he has no information that Davis had a bad intent.
