(Norman-AP) -- Redshirt freshman quarterback Noah Allen has left Oklahoma and plans to transfer to Sam Houston State.
Allen was the Sooners' third-string quarterback in 2003. He says he made the decision after Heisman Trophy winner Jason White decided to return for a sixth season.
Now, he will probably compete to be the Bearkats' quarterback against Dustin Long, who recently transferred from Texas A&M.
Allen says the transfer will give him a chance to play the game he loves.
Allen played three games for the Sooners this season but logged no statistics. When he signed with Oklahoma, he ranked among the top 25 high school quarterbacks in the nation.
