DALLAS (AP) _ Oklahoma's Drew Lavender, who hit a game-winning shot against Purdue, is the first freshman to win Big 12 player of the week honors in the seven-year history of the conference.

Lavender, of Columbus, Ohio, averaged 13.5 points, three rebounds, and 4.5 assists last week as the Sooners beat then-No. 16 Purdue and Prairie View A&M. He shot 50 percent from the field and from 3-point range in both games.

Kansas' J.R. Giddens was named Big 12 rookie of the week after averaging 15 points and 8.5 rebounds in the Jayhawks' wins over Fort Hays State and Oregon.

The freshman guard from Oklahoma City scored a career-high 18 points against the Ducks, and has scored in double figures in three of Kansas' last four games.
