(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A plan designed to lure the Big 12 Conference men's and women's basketball tournaments to Oklahoma City is under study.

The plan would require state lawmakers to eliminate sales taxes from tickets sold for college-level regional and national championship events.

City officials believe the plan would help attract the basketball tournaments to Oklahoma City's Ford Center. They currently rotate between Kansas City, Missouri, and Dallas.

As a nonprofit organization, the Big 12 Conference isn't required to pay sales tax in Missouri or Texas.

Tim Allen, associate commissioner of the Big 12, says tax relief makes sense if Oklahoma City is trying to compete.
