Some Owasso students may think twice about lighting up a cigarette. The Northeast Oklahoma Oncology Nursing Society is promoting Lung Cancer Awareness week.
And Monday, 4th and 5th graders at Northeast Elementary School in Owasso got a hands on lesson using pig lungs. The lungs simulate a healthy lung compared to a smoker's lung. Julie White, Oncology Certified Nurse: "They can see the difference between the healthy lung and the diseased lung. Gives them a very good visual that they're going to take with them forever."
The nursing society will travel to other schools this week to educate area school kids on the dangers of smoking.
There will also be a public educational display at Tulsa's Woodland Hills Mall on Saturday November 22nd.
