(Stillwater-AP) -- Oklahoma wind will soon be powering classrooms at Oklahoma State University.
OSU says it has agreed to purchase wind-generated electricity from Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company.
Jeff Stewart, director of OSU's engineering and utility services, says the school will buy about 140,000 kilowatt hours of wind-generated power each month. The agreement is renewable each year.
OG&E's wind power program is one of the largest in the country. The company says the program generates 50 megawatts of power, or enough electricity to power about 15,000 homes.
The company has a 15-year agreement to purchase power produced by 34 wind turbines at the Oklahoma Wind Energy Center near Woodward.
