(Edmond-AP) -- About 100 University of Central Oklahoma students spent Monday night sleeping in cardboard boxes on campus.
The sleep-out is part of UCO's Poverty Awareness Week to help the students better understand poverty and how the homeless spend their nights.
UCO Campus Life director Blake Fry says the students also filled out applications for housing assistance. Those who were accepted were given an extra blanket or two.
Fry says various activities are planned throughout the week and on Saturday students and representatives of the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department will build an after-school center in Oklahoma City.
