OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Congressman Brad Carson, Oklahoma's lone Democrat in Washington, announced Tuesday that he will seek retiring U.S. Sen. Don Nickles' seat.

Carson made the announcement on radio stations KRMG in Tulsa and KTOK in Oklahoma City. He also was scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. at the state Capitol and 2 p.m. at the Tulsa Press Club.

``I really do believe that people are hungry for a senator in the tradition of Bob Kerr, Henry Bellmon and David Boren,'' Carson said, ``people who worked across party lines ... and tried to bring pragmatic solutions to problems that we face.''
