(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A proposed change to Oklahoma City's charter could affect how a new mayor is chosen if Mayor Kirk Humphreys leaves office early to run for retiring U-S Senator Don Nickles' seat.

Voters will decide Tuesday on the change. If they approve the first of ten charter questions, the city council will have to call a special election to choose a successor for Humphreys if he makes an early departure.

If the question is rejected, the city council will decide who finishes the remaining two years of Humphreys' term.

Humphreys is scheduled to hold a press conference tomorrow with Republican Senator Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma. He is expected to make an announcement related to a possible bid for the Senate seat.
