(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Possible US Senate candidates say the focus Tuesday should be on Senator Don Nickles, not whether they'll run to succeed him.

Nickles announced Tuesday that he does not intend to run for re-election.

Republican Congressman Ernest Istook is considered a potential candidate, but says the focus should be on appreciating Nickles' great service.

Democratic Congressman Brad Carson has indicated an interest in running if Nickles retires and also says the day should focus on Nickles. Carson says he may make a decision on whether to run by the end of the week.

Other possible candidates include Republican Lieutenant Governor Mary Fallin and Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys and Democratic state Attorney General Drew Edmondson.
