Amtrak's congressional funding could soon be financially derailed in Oklahoma. Transportation Department officials say the state's contract with Amtrak expires May 31st.
But officials add Oklahoma's Heartland Flyer can probably keep running through May 2005. After a 20-year absence, passenger rail service resumed in Oklahoma in 1999.
The Heartland Flyer connects Oklahoma City to Fort Worth, Texas. An average of 5,000 people ride the train each month.
