A good place to get some retirement planning advice is from someone who is planning it. News on 6 consumer reporter Rick Wells did that Thursday and found out about a free gift available to all of us as long as they last.

"I would have started saving earlier and saving more." Barbara Tricinella is retiring from the OSU Extension Service. Planning for that has sometimes been difficult. "How to do the math to figure out what I am gonna need to live on in retirement."

She found some help with the calculations on the Internet and coincidentally, as she was finalizing her own plans she was offered hundreds of copies of a retirement planner from the Kiplinger company. "They are a gift from a direct marketer whose client couldn't use them." There is a 30-minute videotape and a companion guidebook. "Every age can benefit."

Another benefit she says they're not trying to sell anything its just good solid retirement planning advice. It is full of examples of people who have handled retirement preparation in different ways. It describes the four places retirement income will come from, social security, pension, savings and post retirement work. "I do plan to continue to work, but it's gonna be something I enjoy. I like to teach but not having to teach full time would be kind of nice."

The Extension Service in Tulsa has boxes of these tapes and is hoping to get them to people who could use them. It’s a good primer if you don't have one or a means to check the progress of your current retirement plan.

The OSU Extension Service is located at 4116 East 15th. The planning guides are available there and are free as long as they last.
