(Washington-AP) -- Oklahoma Congressman John Sullivan suffered minor injuries Wednesday in a car accident in the parking lot of the US Capitol.
Sullivan and Deputy Chief of Staff Elizabeth Bartheld were injured when an electronic security barrier rose prematurely and hit the car driven by Bartheld.
Sullivan and Bartheld were treated at the scene for minor injuries, then taken to George Washington University Hospital.
Sullivan spokesman Jay Wiley says the congressman suffered scrapes and cuts and expects to return to work Thursday. Wiley says a third person in the car is not injured.
Air bags in the two-door BMW deployed and parts of the car were ripped off by the security barrier.
