Bank robberies are on the rise in Tulsa. With two more hit since Friday, Tulsa Police are noticing a troubling trend.
In 2001 Tulsa Police had a grand total of four bank robberies to investigate. That number jumped to 11 last year. So far this year, we've had 8, and it's only July. Many believe a bad economy causes bank robberies to go up. Tulsa Police Sgt Troy Rogers say while that may be a factor, these robbers generally didn't just lose a job, and they’re often career criminals. “Most of the people doing the robbing really don't have bank accounts, they don't have portfolios or things of that nature. You could probably tie a lot of this to drug usage."
If you have any information on the bank robberies, call Crimestoppers at 596-COPS. You can remain anonymous.
