The Oklahoma Lake Patrol is stepping up enforcement at Tulsa area lakes to help keep people safe over the Independence Day weekend.
News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan visited Lake Keystone and says drinking and boating doesn't mix any better than drinking and driving so the Lake Patrol - and the Highway Patrol will both be watching for problems both on the water and on the road this weekend.
Some people have already headed to the lake for the weekend. At all of the federal lakes around Tulsa - which is most of them - the same rules for alcohol still apply - no alcohol on the beaches - and everywhere else, drinking is legal - but being drunk is not.
Oklahoma Lake Patrol, Lt Jim West, “we've been experiencing some problems with drinking it's been mainly in the beach area, it's been mainly on the ground this year."
There has been increased enforcement of the alcohol laws around the lakes, but the laws have not changed.
