(Broken Bow-AP) -- A Tulsa businessman is planning to create a preserve to protect Oklahoma alligators.
Larry Spivey says not many know alligators are indigenous to Oklahoma, primarily in the Red River and Little River in southeastern Oklahoma.
Spivey says local and state officials are showing interest in his plan for an Alligator Protection and Conservation Trust. He says one landowner is offering the use of 120 acres along the Little River between Broken Bow and Idabel for a wildlife and science center.
Spivey says the first thing to be done is a survey to determine how many alligators there are in Oklahoma and where they're located.
