NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma, home to 39 federally recognized American Indian tribes and nations, will have its first master's program in Native American Studies in fall 2004.

The program at the University of Oklahoma is intended to meet the needs of teachers and other employees of American Indian tribes and government agencies. The university already has an undergraduate program in Native American Studies.

The new master's program was approved by the State Regents at their May 30 meeting.
