(Bonner Springs-AP) -- The US Department of Agriculture announced today that it will offer financial incentives to farmers who try to reduce greenhouse gases.
Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman was in Bonner Springs, Kansas today to announce the new incentives.
Veneman says the USDA will begin considering greenhouse gas management practices when evaluating applications for forest and agricultural conservation programs.
The department also plans to offer financial incentives, technical assistance, demonstrations, pilot programs, education and capacity building. It will also come up with measurements to assess the success of the efforts.
Veneman says it's good news for the environment and good news for agriculture.
