After nearly fifty years of service, Broken Arrow's Southside Elementary will close its doors this Friday.
The move by the school board will save the district $400,000. That means about 280 students will be in new schools next year. Southside students will attend either Rhoades, Arrowhead or Oak Crest elementary schools. But Southside students might not have to say good-bye to all their buddies.
The kids who ride the bus together now will go to the same school. Gayla Nida, Southside Principal, "it’s always sad to break up a family and at Southside we're one big family."
Tracy Keeter, Southside PTA President, "Even though we're sad to see it its the best thing in the long run for our kids as well as the rest of the district we want to do everything we can to insure their education."
There will be a parent information meeting Tuesday night at Southside Elementary at 7 to discuss the changes.
