The money problems have taken a turn for the worse for the Muskogee School district. It has to repay $3.5-million over a five year period, for extra money it received from the state.

And that will likely mean teacher layoffs. Muskogee received additional state aid from 1996 to 1998. A computer system upgrade caused the district to report inflated attendance figures.

The error was caught during an audit.
