(Muskogee-AP) -- Preliminary tests show an ailing chicken flock in Muskogee County didn't have a highly contagious bird virus.
State Agriculture Department spokesman Jack Carson says the flock of gamecocks initially tested negative for Exotic Newcastle disease.
The US Agriculture Department is doing more precise testing. Those results are expected this week.
The virus was first found in California in October and since has spread to other states. It's led to the slaughter of (m) millions of birds.
Fear that it had been found in eastern Oklahoma led Arkansas officials last week to institute temporary restrictions on chicken imports, transportation and public exhibition.
