Bethany - An Oklahoma mother has been charged with agreeing to sell her baby to three couples and a Texas adoption agency even though she had no intention of giving up the child.
Twenty-six-year-old Carrie Shea Edwards of Bethany, Oklahoma is charged in Oklahoma County with four felony counts of trafficking in children. Court records say she accepted more than 13,800 dollars for agreeing to sell the baby.
Edwards allegedly set up fraudulent deals with prospective parents, adoption agencies and attorneys in Oklahoma, California, Montana, Oregon and Texas. Authorities say she made deals to give up her child for adoption, when she actually intended to keep the baby.
If convicted on all four counts, Edwards could be sentenced up to 40 years in prison and fined up to 40-thousand dollars.
