The mother of a postal carrier fatally shot while delivering mail has filed a lawsuit against the man who admitted killing him.

Robert Jenkins was gunned down in December 2001 while delivering mail in the Riverside area. Jason Weed [pictured] was found innocent of murder by reason of insanity. But he agreed with prosecutors last year that he committed second-degree murder by killing Jenkins.

The lawsuit wants payment from Weed if he's released from custody and gets a job. A hearing will be held May 13th to determine if Weed is a danger to others, or if he can be released.
