(Ardmore-AP) -- The state regents have created new guidelines for colleges and universities requesting tuition or fee increases.
The guidelines follow the state Legislature's passage of a measure to allow institutions more flexibility to raise rates.
Under the guidelines, an institution's president must propose the increase to the school's governing board. The board would made a recommendation to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, who could approve the increase and report their decision to the Legislature.
The regents also approved an additional 417 courses that will be transferable among state colleges and universities.
There are now more than 5,300 transferable courses offered in the state's public university system.
