(Lawton-AP) -- The Lawton school board is laying off teachers who have been with the district fewer than three years.
The board is eliminating 132 certified teaching positions to save the district more than $5-million.
The district has already seen $5.2-million in cuts in the fiscal year.
By state law school districts have to finalize teacher contracts for the next fiscal year by April 10.
Professional Educators Association of Lawton President Judy Runnels says districts cutting young teachers are losing fresh ideas and people who are excited about their profession.
