(Kansas City-AP) -- Johnny Thompson easily won his first two matches, helping Oklahoma State forge ahead in its bid for a 31st N-C-A-A wrestling title.

Seven wrestlers reached today's quarterfinal round for the Cowboys. They were the only team to qualify ten wrestlers for the meet in Kansas City.

The two-time defending champion, Minnesota, placed five of eight wrestlers in the quarterfinals.

Lehigh is in second behind Oklahoma State. Oklahoma is third. Minnesota is fourth and Illinois and Iowa are tied for fifth.
