(Oklahoma City-AP) -- State Senator Keith Leftwich of Oklahoma City will be the new chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee.

Senate President Pro Tem Cal Hobson named Leftwich Thursday to replace former Senator Gene Stipe, who resigned Tuesday. Leftwich has been vice chairman of the transportation committee for ten years.

Stipe resigned as federal investigators look into his role in illegal contributions to the 1998 congressional campaign of Walt Roberts. Roberts and two other Stipe associates are charged with campaign law violations.

Stipe has not been charged.
