The education funding crisis has forced some school districts to close schools and that include Sand Springs.
The school board has unanimously decided to close Twin Cities elementary for next year. Sand Springs is trying to find ways to deal with a budget shortfall of more than a million dollars.
Closing Twin Cities will save between $650,000 and $700,000. The school has been open 79 years. Bob Purser, Twin Cities Principal "That is the focal point of the community, that school. Even though it has 140 kids, they are 140 important kids."
The students will go to classes at Garfield and Central elementary schools in Sand Springs next year. The teachers and other employees will be moved to other schools in the district.
