A Native American group in Tulsa is calling on Union High School to get rid of its "Redskin" mascot.

The greater Tulsa Area Indian Affairs Commission asked for Union schools to do away with the Redskins nickname. Some members of the commission say the term "Redskin" is offensive and insulting.

But many parents and students disagree. Parent, Roddy Roberts, "I understand you have to be sensitive to people's feelings and the history of things. But from where I stand, my kids in the Union system, to them, they are proud of the Redskin name and logo."

Committee Vice Chair Robert Anquoe, "It is not respect to pay homage to a person that portrays stereotypical behavior."

The Indian Affairs Committee will take its case before the Union school board next week.
