The Martin Luther King Jr celebration Monday included a huge parade through part of north Tulsa.
There were bands from three Tulsa high schools and a middle school band from Spencer Oklahoma, near Oklahoma City. This was the first of two parades for them Monday.
Organizations large and small were represented, all of them celebrating Dr King's life and work.
In Oklahoma City, dozens of people gathered at the state historical building Monday morning to ring the bell of freedom in Dr King's honor. Then, they took to the streets of Bricktown for a parade.
The events in Oklahoma City ended Monday evening with a candlelight vigil at OU's Memorial Union and on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
