FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ American Airlines announced air fare reductions on Wednesday covering more than 200 domestic and international destinations.

The Fort Worth-based carrier's discounts of up to 40 percent off leisure rates are for winter and spring travel. Tickets must be purchased by Jan. 20.

U.S. airlines have been struggling amid a sharp reduction in both business and leisure travel following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. A number of carriers have adopted special fares to try to draw travelers back to the sky.
