FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ Former Arkansas basketball coach Nolan Richardson is due $3 million in deferred compensation in addition to the $3 million buyout of his contract that resulted from his March 1 firing.

The additional sum is alluded to in a document generated by the university when it was handling Richardson's appeal of his firing.

The brief mention was by university attorney Fred Harrison in a memo in which Richardson's compensation was discussed.

``Coach Richardson's deferred compensation packages total approximately $3,000,000,'' Harrison wrote in parenthetical remarks to university system President B. Alan Sugg.

According to Harrison, Richardson and Arkansas football coach Houston Nutt have similar deferred compensation programs. His memo to Sugg says Nutt's is covered by the Razorback Foundation, the fund-raising arm of the university athletic department. It does not mention who is responsible for Richardson's.

Fayetteville campus Chancellor John A. White fired Richardson and the dismissal was upheld two weeks ago by Sugg. White said Richardson made comments the administration deemed harmful to the university.
