Tulsa's new Mayor Bill LaFortune is wasting no time tackling a controversial issue. He's diving right into a proposal to close five public pools in North Tulsa.
One of them is the Amos T Recreation Center. The director urged LaFortune to keep the pools afloat this summer. She says without it, dozens of at-risk children could be left high and dry this summer. North Tulsa advocate, Edith Shoales, "They want to take our pools and that angered me because I know I've got so many kids this summer and we need our pool."
Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune, "It's really their only recreational outlet, and I'm going to do everything to keep these pools open."
City leaders want to shut down five city pools in North Tulsa to make up for a large budget shortfall.
