DENVER (AP) _ It sounds like an odd pairing, but boy band 'N Sync and rockers Smash Mouth are hitting the road together.
``At first we were like 'No way, uh-uh, forget it.' Then we were like, 'OK, let's wait a minute and think about this,''' said Smash Mouth's guitarist and chief songwriter Greg Camp. ``We're playing arenas, some places two nights in a row. We'll be playing in front of a lot of people.''
That would be a change from the band's more regular haunts: small smoky theaters. So Smash Mouth _ with its punk and garage roots _ will join the mainstream pop kids.
``We're sort of known as the band that'll kinda do anything,'' Camp told the Rocky Mountain News on Saturday. ``We're up for anything that comes along.''
Then the guys from 'N Sync came calling to test that inclination.
``We met them a few months back at the People's Choice Awards. I think they just liked the fact that we walked up and said 'Hi' to them,'' said Camp.
