Lawyers for auditing firm Arthur Andersen LLP promised to vigorously fight a federal criminal indictment for mass shredding of Enron-related documents at its Houston offices.
The Public Oversight Board, which oversees the accounting industry, urged the creation of a new body to regulate the accounting industry. The board voted to disband by March 31.
The Securities and Exchange Commission said the special reviews of the Big Five accounting firms - including Enron's former auditor Arthur Andersen - will be completed by Oct. 31.
