OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) _ A man has been sentenced to consecutive life prison sentences for the 1998 deaths of two people.

Sherman Nathaniel Brown was sentenced Monday for the murders of Shelly Tash, 33, his manager at a convenience store in Preston on Feb. 22, 1998, and Bill Harvey, 53, at his north Okmulgee service station two days later.

Brown, 28, had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of robbery with a weapon. Maley sentenced Brown to life terms for the robbery counts, with both sentences to run concurrently to the murder terms.

A jury convicted Brown of the murders in 1999, and he was sentenced to two consecutive life-without-parole prison terms for the killings and two concurrent life terms for the robberies.

But in October 2000, the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals said there was no evidence the two robbery-homicides were connected and ruled the trial judge erred by allowing one trial for two unrelated crimes.

Tash was shot three times in the head at close range while she crouched in the corner of a store restroom in which she had locked herself.

Harvey was shot four times in the face - twice as he lay on the floor.
