OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A fund-raising event in New York for U.S. Senate candidate David Walters will include an appearance by former President Clinton.
Clinton will join about 100 others at a $1,000-per-place reception to raise money for Walters' campaign. The former Oklahoma governor is running for the seat held by Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla.
The fund-raiser is being held at the Manhattan home of New York businessman John Catsimatidis and his wife, Margo, who own the supermarket chain Red Apple. Former U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey of Nebraska and Robert Kennedy Jr. will co-host the event.
Clinton was invited as a special guest.
``Governor Walters and Governor Clinton served together, so this goes back way before the presidency and I think, honestly, he has the night open,'' said Sean Mossman, Walters' campaign manager. ``It's exciting.''
Mossman said most Senate candidates raise money out of state and often in New York. He said a larger portion of Walters' money has come from Oklahomans.
Walters is receiving support from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which invited guests from New York for the Manhattan fund-raiser.
