KOTV’s Wild Wild Weather show in Claremore Tuesday night was a huge success. Not just in the crowd turnout, but for food bank donations.

The generous folks who came to the show brought with them somewhere between 3,000 and 3,800 cans of food to help their neighbors in need. That food can help a lot of people. News on Six reporter Patrina Adger went to Claremore Wednesday to show us how.

“There's bags, and bags of canned goods and dry food items, to be loaded off this truck and packed onto these empty shelves. We're just grateful for this donation, just real grateful." Good Samaritan Ministries Director Dorothy Graham says the donations couldn't have come at a better time. The generous outpour of donations from people at Tuesday’s Wild Weather Show will feed close to 60 families the ministry helps every month. "We have people come in they're so grateful, they hug you, kiss you. And exuberate after you've helped them."

Chamber of Commerce Chairman Michael Tedford says the turnout was much more than he had expected. “We were estimating an average of 15 cans per sack, 3800 cans of food." Faith Baptist Church started the outreach program in 1995 and has helped thousands of Roger County residents in times of crisis. Along with giving away food, they sell shirts and jeans at reasonable prices, that money helps to pay the utility bills and medicine for the needy. “We've never turned anybody away. We don't care where they're from. It was the best way to get food to people and stays local to the community." Its just another way of the people helping people.

Claremore Church of Christ, First United Methodist Church and the Church of Claremore will also share in Tuesday night’s bounty.
