A man who tried to hijack a Tulsa city bus remains in the Tulsa County jail.
Tulsa Police say 42-year-old Robert Vasser stole an armload of purses from the Mazzios near 71st and Lewis then jumped on board a city busy, his plan was to hijack it and make his getaway. But Vasser didn't figure on a passenger foiling his plan.
George Dickinson was the only passenger on the bus and wrestled with Vasser to keep him from injuring the women bus driver. George Dickinson, "I was on the bus, so I couldn't just sit there and let him assault the lady like that. Personally I don't like being assaulted like that." Dickinson and the bus driver made it off the bus and Vasser locked himself until he heard the police sirens and tried to make a run for it.
That's when John Potter stepped in. John Potter, "We hear the sirens coming, so he breaks the glass on the passengers side of the bus and tries to crawl out, at which time I punched him in the face to get him to go back in the bus and then the police pull up."
The police arrested Vasser without anyone getting hurt, then threw the book at him. He faces quite a list of charges including, attempted battery of a police officer, two counts attempted battery, two counts of theft, resisting arrest, and robbery.
His bond is at $137,000.
