MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (AP) _ Five members of the Midwest City basketball team, including stars Shelden Williams and De'Angelo Alexander, have been suspended from school, officials said.
``We've had a violation of team rules as well as school district policy,'' Mid-Del public schools spokesman Josh O'Brien said. ``We've made some preliminary punishments related to that.''
O'Brien declined comment on the reason for the suspensions, but The Daily Oklahoman reported that a source familiar with the situation said an incident occurred during the team's trip to Ohio last weekend.
Williams, a 6-foot-9 senior, has signed with Duke. Alexander, a 6-foot-5 senior, has signed with Oklahoma.
The names of the remaining suspended team players were not available.
All five have been suspended until at least Monday, when officials said they could return to the team. They will not play in the Jenks Invitational, a three-day tournament that started Thursday.
