A 36-year-old Chickasha man was seriously injured after his dump truck collided with a train. The accident happened Friday morning, just north of Oolagah.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the accident occurred just off highway 169, where county road 38 crosses over Union Pacific railroad tracks. Patrol trooper Ron Hamilton says Jason Harrel was eastbound on the county road and pulled into the path of the northbound train, “It turned off here and made a right hand turn, it was a northbound train and obviously he didn't see it and as he's attempting to make the crossing he was hit in the side by the train.†The driver was flown by helicopter to a Tulsa hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Over the past 10 years, Rogers County has had 66 railroad crossing accidents. 12 of those resulted in fatalities. OHP says the last accident at this particular crossing killed a 17-year Oologah teenager in 1999.
