STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ Fredrik Jonzen's jumper with 1:59 remaining proved to be the game-winner as No. 14 Oklahoma State survived to beat Wichita State 61-59 Saturday night.

The Cowboys (8-0) had won six in a row by double figures and were coming off a 48-point victory over New Orleans, but had to hold on to avoid being upset by the Shockers (3-3) for the second straight year.

Jonzen's jumper made the score 61-57 but Wichita State got within two with 1:39 remaining on two free throws by Randy Burns, who scored 21. Burns is one of five freshmen who play for the Shockers.

Wichita State turned the ball over on a charging foul with 47 seconds left but had a chance to tie or win when the Shockers rebounded Melvin Sanders' missed 3-pointer with 12 seconds remaining.

They called a timeout with 5.1 seconds left, then got the ball to C.C. McFall on the left wing. His jumper from about 22 feet bounced off the rim as the horn sounded.

Jonzen finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. Maurice Baker, averaging 19 points per game, had just 12 and didn't have a field goal in the second half.

Oklahoma State led by as many as 12 in the first half but Wichita State hung in there.

The Shockers, behind 10 points from Burns including a pair of 3-pointers, closed the first half with a 12-3 spurt that made the score 36-34 at halftime. The Shockers shot 58 percent in the half and battled Oklahoma State to a draw on the backboards.

The Cowboys twice led by six in the second half, the second time 59-53 with 4:03 remaining. As it turned out, they would score only one more basket the rest of the way.

Wichita State beat Oklahoma State 61-59 last year at home.
