(Norman-AP) -- Oklahoma co-defensive coordinator Mike Stoops is one of 18 finalists for the American Football Coaches Association's assistant coach of the year award.

Stoops has helped direct a defense that ranks third overall nationally and number six in scoring defense at 13-point-7 points per game.

The winner of the award will be announced November 28th.

Last year, Oklahoma offensive coordinator Mark Mangino received the Frank Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach.
