- In Oklahoma, nearly 15,000 adolescents are chemically dependent
- The top three drugs of choice for adolescents are
- Alcohol
- Marijuana
- Methamphetamine
- Methamphetamine use among Oklahoma teens has increased 80% in the past two years
The Oklahoma Department of Education, Title IV incident report for 1999-2000, notes the following related directly to the possession, sale or use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs at school:
- 6,417 students (elementary, middle, and high school) were referred for disciplinary action
- 2,819 students received out of school suspensions
- 1,931 students received in school suspensions
- 1,158 students were expelled
- 861 students were placed in alternative education
- 416 students were arrested
