OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A team of forensic criminalists examining cases handled by a former Oklahoma City police chemist has 380 files left in its review, investigators said Monday.
The five-member team from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has looked at 817 of Joyce Gilchrist's case files and recommended 130 for further review.
``We hope to have the initial case file review completed by the first of the year,'' OSBI spokeswoman Kym Koch said. ``Once we've done that, we'll be focusing on those case files marked for further review.
``We'll compare analysis in the case file with what was testified to in court. Then attorneys will decide if retesting is necessary.''
The cases of three death row inmates have been chosen to be retested.
Attorneys from the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System and the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office have not decided what evidence should be sent to private laboratories in the cases against John Michael Hooker and Michael Edward Hooper.
Hooker was convicted of fatally stabbing his common law wife, Sylvia Stokes, and her mother, Drucilla Morgan, in 1998. Hooper was convicted of the 1993 triple slaying of Cindy Jarman and her children, Tonya and Timmy.
