Haywood, Lewis and Welker named Big 12 players of week

DALLAS (AP) _ Iowa State running back Ennis Haywood, Texas linebacker D.D. Lewis and Texas Tech punt returner Wes Welker were named the Big 12 players of the week.
Haywood, the Big 12's offensive player of the week, rushed for 196 yards and three touchdowns on 39 carries in Iowa State's 28-14 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday. Haywood has 2,467 career yards, putting him 12th on the Big 12 list.
Lewis earned the defensive player of the week honor for his six-tackle performance in the No. 7 Longhorns' 41-7 victory over Colorado. Lewis also recovered a fumble and had a sack.
The special teams player of the week was Welker, who played for Heritage Hall in Oklahoma City. He returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown and had another TD return called back because of a penalty in Texas Tech's 41-31 loss to Nebraska. Welker also caught four passes for 47 yards and had one rush for 7 yards.
